1,000 rubber duckies competed in the race to raise money for the Children's Museum and Megan Hurckes Foundation.

While it wasn't the photo finish from last year, two ducks battled for second and third for some last minute thrills in the Oak Lawn Professional Firefighters' Second Annual Rubber Ducky Race on July 4.

Hundreds of Oak Lawn residents followed the firefighters' patriotic duck float at the end of the village Independence Day Parade to Lake Shore Park.

Oak Lawn firefighters sold 800 ducks and sponsorships including Oak Lawn Patch, Advocate Christ Medical Center, Kelly Nissan, Hilton Oak Lawn, Haggerty Volkswagen Buick GMC , Little Company of Mary Hospital, Les Brothers Restaurant, Jack's Towing, the OLFD Club and Blake-Lamb Funeral Home raising over $10,000 for the Chidlren's Museum and Megan Hurckes Foundation.

Prize sponsors included FreshLine Foods, Pazzo Salon and Spa, Andy's Custard, Palermo's Pizza, Velvet Cake Bakery, and Tuzik's 95th Street Bakery.

Fifteen winners won themselves iPads, a ride to school in a fire truck, a slumber party at the Children's Museum, Kindles, Nooks and other prizes.

There was no "fowl" play and only minimal human intervention to help some of the duckies that became trapped in the swirling currents of the drain pipe during the race.

Don't worry--firefighters retrieved their little yellow friends from the lake and gave them a good bathing before being put into storage for next year.

Thanks to all the sponsors and residents that purchased ducks in the firefighters' annual rubber ducky race.
